It was surprisingly easy to follow Detox with Purpose. Early in the program Julie said “giving up Diet Coke for 21 days isn't hard - giving birth is hard” - and that really hit home. There are people struggling with so many things in life that are truly hard – changing my diet can't even begin to compare.
I knew I could follow any program for 21 days and stick to it. What is even more rewarding is that even now that the 21 days are over, I can honestly say that I have formed new habits, and that I will continue to focus on making better choices.
Biggest Challenge
Before Detox with Purpose, I knew I wasn't making very good choices. Drinking too much diet coke, grabbing take out for lunch most days. I was close to the highest weight I had ever been at and kept buying new clothes instead of working to fit into the ones hanging in my closest. I didn't like they way I looked and was very self-conscious about my weight.
Results
I lost a little over 10 pounds, and can fit back into clothes I haven't worn in a long time. One of the results I hadn't expected, but was very pleasantly surprised at, was the increase in my energy level. Prior to the program, it seemed like every afternoon around 3pm I would hit a wall and be so tired. I told myself I needed a diet coke to wake up and get through the afternoon. Since Day 2 or 3 of the program, that feeling was gone and I do not miss the diet coke.

The biggest surprise working with Julie during Detox with Purpose was how gentle and easy it was to transition into the cleanse. I have participated in other cleanses that felt much harsher and "extreme". I experienced a gentle transition without many side-effects and lost twelve pounds by the end of the cleanse!
Throughout the program, I ate simple, delicious foods and I was able to test which foods were problematic for my body since having kids. I learned that my body does better without gluten or dairy and I only eat those foods once in a great while since the detox. I have been much more accepting and loving of my body since Detox with Purpose. I have been able to honor the great changes my body went through having two children.
Biggest Challenge
I have struggled to lose weight after the birth of my second child. I have also suffered from low back pain for the past couple of years. I eat very healthy, local, fresh, organic food but I felt that something had really changed in my body postpartum. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't shake those extra pounds and I felt weighed down by my back pain.
Results
Having the structure and support of Julie's program helped me simplify my relationship with food so that I could shed some weight, feel lighter and more energized, and be really clear about what foods really nourish me. With these results, I have so much more room for true happiness and appreciation of the one precious body I have to carry me through this life.I have much more energy, my lower back pain has reduced DRAMATICALLY, and I my old cravings for sugar didn't come back during the holidays! The cleanse really did help me reset my body and relationship with food in a way that has been sustainable since the program ended.

It is not an exaggeration to say that Detox with Purpose changed the course of my physical health. I was so discouraged from YEARS of trying diets and programs and exercise fads to stay healthy in a way that felt comfortable and not all consuming. While there were times that I was successful getting into shape and "looking good", other programs typically involved some sort of crazy restrictive diet plan combined with an obsessive exercise plan. They were just not sustainable, nor healthy, in the long term.
Julie has designed an amazing program that takes all of the work and confusion out of "rebooting" your mind and body. This is not a canned, do-it-yourself, sink-or-swim package. Julie is there every step of the way to teach, support, clarify and encourage. The pre-program preparation, the program materials and resources and the post-program follow up are all exceptional. The information is presented in manageable amounts so that you can incorporate it before moving on to the next step.
Biggest Challenge
There is SO much conflicting advice out there about what to eat, what not to eat, when to eat, when not to eat, etc, that I was completely overwhelmed, confused and ready to give up. In fact, I had given up, slowly but steadily gaining weight for several years, experiencing depression and deciding that being healthy and happy with my body was just not in the cards for me. To be truthful, I wasn't even optimistic that THIS program was going to change any of that, but something told me to give it one last try.
Results
My head is clear, my energy levels are out of this world, my skin is clear, my hair is shiny, my eyes are bright and I've even been told that I look "radiant", how crazy is that?! And if all that weren't enough, I have shed 25 pounds almost effortlessly. I absolutely credit Julie's program with being the catalyst for all of these changes. If you had told me 6 months ago that my diet and my body would be completely transformed, I would have politely thanked you for sharing and then walked away saying "there is NO way!"

This morning I drank my hot lemon water, as I do every day, and reflected on how many good habits I formed while doing the detox. I knew that detoxing would improve how I feel, but I did not expect to enjoy it so much. I now continue several of the habits the program created just for the pleasure of it.
Biggest Challenge
When it comes to food, I am somewhat of a rebel. If you tell me I can't finish it, I will finish it. If you tell me I can't have it, I crave it. I couldn't help resenting the restrictions of being on the detox at first, but I am also a huge rule-follower, so I didn't do anything I wasn't allowed to do. Once I figured out what I could eat and made sure I had it in my kitchen, I got over that!
Results
I signed up for the detox because I was experiencing persistent but variable bloating and discomfort. From experience, I knew that I felt better when I ate better, and vice versa. The best result of the detox was not only feeling better, but discovering that I could feel well again. Now, when I begin to get symptoms back, I am empowered and motivated by the knowledge that I can fix the problem on my own. I also lost a couple of pounds, but for me that was a side benefit.

After 2 kids and many failed attempts at losing the baby weight, I turned to Julie for some guidance. She was able to teach me how to best optimize my gym performance and my health. For me, it wasn’t just about the weight loss. My mind was so clear and I started to believe that my new healthy lifestyle might help with getting pregnant. The weight started dropping off of me. I no longer needed to start my day with a cup of coffee and instead started craving a berry smoothie. In a month, I lost 10 pounds and so did my husband! I am almost into my size 8 jeans and let me tell you, the dust on those jeans is proof enough that it had been a while! Biggest Challenge
I felt very "stuck" before I started this journey together. I lost 50 lbs on my own and really wanted to lose 20 more. I had plateaued for about a month or two and began to get really frustrated when I kept doing the same things that I did to lose the first 50 lbs and they didn't work on the last 20. I weighed myself several times a day and was incredibly hard on myself. I lost a significant amount of weight and couldn’t seem to lose any more on my own. I feared making "big" goals because I was afraid that I would fail. I was having huge reactions to small mistakes instead looking at my set-backs objectively. I was tired of constantly counting calories and weighing myself every day. I needed someone to hold me accountable.
Results
I lost 20 lbs and went from a size 10 to a size 4! I have a whole new appreciation for nutritious, organic, whole, unprocessed food. I even signed up for a share at my local organic farm! Now I eat what I think my body needs rather than convenient or comfort foods. I have stopped counting calories and measuring out portions. And . . . I learned how to cook!
I am ok with myself. I reached my goal weight and I don’t have the old fear that I will gain the weight back.

I had made three distinct attempts at weight loss over a 3 year period before working with Julie. I purchased meal plans and met with a local weight management counselor until she told me she couldn't help me due to medications I was taking. I switched gyms and worked with a personal trainer for 9 months and the scale was still stuck. After 4 weeks with Julie, I was thrilled to be losing weight consistently.
Something about how Julie described her approach really resonated with me. I appreciated the fact that she had studied at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and had sound nutritional and psychological knowledge.
Changing how you eat is really hard! There are a lot of great resources available, but if you don't have a "map," you can't know where to start - at least I didn't. Julie gave me that map - everything from breakfast, lunch, dinner recipes to how to stock the pantry. Not to mention the fact that she helped me identify specific points in the day when I could get into trouble - and how to avoid them.
In my view Julie's approach to weight loss has defined principles and a structure, but she certainly tailored aspects to meet my needs and my personal pitfalls. Her expectations were clear, but she also gave me the message that you aren't derailed if you have a day in which you make unwise food choices - and I had those!
When I began working with Julie, I was skeptical as to whether I could actually get the scale to move in a downward direction. Her approach made a lot of sense, but I wasn't sure if I could make it work for me. It did!
Biggest Challenge
I tried many other credible approaches to losing weight and they really failed. What followed was really tough for both me and the people I care about. I continually felt bad about myself and how I looked, and my husband had an extremely difficult time with my weight gain. As a mom, feeling bad about yourself is not what you want to model for your kids. My failed attempts were destructive in so many ways.
Results
In a an eight month period, I lost 23 pounds. I am thrilled to have dropped two dress sizes, from a 10-12 to a 6-8 (all depending on designer, cut, etc) My energy has increased because I'm feeding my body the right foods for me and because I am carrying around a lot less weight.
